Bicheno to Launceston via St Marys, Mathinna, Pyengana, Welborough, Derby
Bicheno to Launceston via St Marys, Mathinna, Pyengana, Welborough, Derby
This ride is a combination of some fantastic sealed road passes and easy forestry dirt roads. Suitable for big or small adventure bikes. The first part of the track was seeking to find a way into Hardings Falls Forest Reserve, but that did not work out due to the need to traverse Douglas Apsley National Park (poor track planning on my behalf :-)). In the end, this worked out fine, because the route then proceeded up the Elephant Pass to St Marys, which was a terrific ride. There are two other fantastic twisty sections on this route, namely Weldborough Pass and The Sideling. The route takes you to a stop to checkout St Columba Falls and then through Pyengana. You could stop off here to give a beer to the pig at the Pub in the Paddock.

Launceston to Devonport via Dazzler Ranges
Launceston to Devonport via Dazzler Ranges
This was an exploration ride to learn more about the riding around the Asbestos and Dazzler Ranges. It is a combination of sealed and dirt roads. There is a magnificent lookout on Kerrisons Road in the Dazzler Ranges. At the lookout there is a communications tower and a fire lookout tower. There are gates which can be locked on Kerrisons Road either side of the lookout. When I rode this on 16 Jan 2022, the gate at the northern end was open and the gate on the southern side was locked. It was possible to walk the bike (KTM 1090) around the locked gate, but I had to take my panniers off to do so. Route was inspired by tracks from Windy Rider (Devonport to Beaconsfield, North, Tasmania) and monomark (Latrobe to Deloraine via Brushy Lagoon). Check out their tracks too!

Toowoomba - Mt Sylvia - Thornton - Laidley - Aratula
Toowoomba - Mt Sylvia - Thornton - Laidley - Aratula
This is stage 1 of a loop from Toowoomba to Aratula and back. It contains a mixture of sealed back roads, formed gravel roads and a few sections of double-track / fire trail. Our group of three (2xDR650 and a KLR650) ran out of time and headed for home after Laidley but will be returning again soon to finish the route. We stopped at the Mulgowie Pub for an excellent outback pub lunch - huge burger and chips for $17. The sections south of Stockyard and south-west from Mt Sylvia form part of the Bicentennial Trail - follow the red/orange markers. Access relies on a number of gates being unlocked - which they were for us. Respectful riding is essential in these areas! When heading south-west of Mt Sylvia, at the end of Left Hand Branch Rd, a steep climb brings you out to a landing with a locked fence on the right. Look left for an open gate and then descend down to the Thorton View Trailhead.

EZY Duzzit Expedition 21
EZY Duzzit Expedition 21
4 day trip from Sunny Coast to Expedition National Park 10 riders on variety of bikes 1200s, 690s, 790s, A Twins, Dog rooters and an exotic Nuda with EZY Duzzit Adventures lads. few sandy sections Day 1 between Gayndah and Mundubbera. (minimal). Day 2 covers a fair amount of blacksoil country and mild pretend bulldust (not real bulldust) there is one dry sandy crossing marked as Presho Sandy Xing in the waypoints which might require some care. Day 3 is pretty easy going dirt roads. Day 4 pretty much a leisurely jaunt home. All night camps. There is a better camp at The Broadwater NE of Kingaroy I have since discovered than the one we camped at in these files at end of Day 3. Reasonably big days on the bike, not for Big bikes if you are a pussy.
